"She could not accommodate herself to a small and regimented reality. And so finally, after a couple of decades, she created a new one. From the inside."

From Wild Mercy by Mirabai Starr

As an end-of-life doula, I’m trained to guide people to find meaning in their lives, come to terms with their unfinished business, have those really hard conversations, and think deeply about all the joy, fulfillment, and love they’ve experienced. As a result, they often come to know their fears, hopes, regrets, and gratitudes at the deepest level. They find deep joy in living and themselves. Except... they’re at the end of their life.

Can you imagine what would happen if we, the living, explored these things before we got the point of having to?

I’m Kristen and I believe we have to kill the things that no longer serve, continuously throughout our lives, to keep inching closer to our most authentic selves. And through this process, we learn how to live our soul truth.

In 2004, my partner and I sold most of our things and moved across the US to create a new life, in a new place, away from almost everything we knew. We laid our old life to rest without guarantee of the new.

I now know that if we hadn’t made that decision, we would have spent our whole life dying from the inside out.

  • We got married in 2005 and I got pregnant in 2007.
  • Then, in 2011, we killed our marriage. Consciously uncoupling (thanks Gwenyth!) and rebuilding our lives as friends and co-parents. Today, we are each other’s most trusted allies and our child THRIVES.
  • In 2017 I quit my successful professional life because that life had ceased being a full Hell Yes. I started my own business. I set out collecting other kinds of professional experience.
  • I traveled to Peru and had an epic, soul-changing journey, and did a lot of internal work.
  • I birthed the idea for my podcast, Dying To Live.
  • And in 2018, I returned to my previous professional life, in a different way, in a different role. Because sometimes a no can shapeshift very quickly back into a yes. And I didn’t want to miss out on the soul-fulfilling work I craved.
  • Now, I’m also here, guiding folks like you back to their most authentic selves so you can fully live into your soul path.
  • All of this to say, if we’re lucky, we experience small deaths all the time. These small deaths clear away the things we don’t need anymore. The things standing in the way between where we’ve been and the path that’s meant for us.

WHAT IF WE EMBRACED THESE DEATHS AS A NECESSARY, INEVITABLE PART OF LIFE?

If you’re really feeling what I’m saying here, you’re ready to uplevel your life.
